SOUTHBRIDGE - Lawrence R. Trombley, 70, of 80 Warren Road, died yesterday in Harrington Memorial Hospital.

He leaves his wife, Anne (Ayers) Trombley; two sons, Richard Trombley of Pompano Beach, Fla. and Michael Trombley of Southbridge; a brother, George Trombley of Idaho; and three grandchildren.
He was a machine maintenance worker at American Optical Co. for 15 years, retiring 15 years ago. He was also a Southbridge patrolman for five years.

He was a U.S. Army and Merchant Marine veteran of World War II. He was a member of Southbridge VFW Post 6055, a past commander of Franco-American War Veterans Post 29, a past commander of AMVETS Post 29 and was quartermaster of the Franco-American War Veterans and the AMVETS. He was also a a member of Southbridge American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Worcester County Deputy Sheriffs Association, the American Association of Retired Persons, and the American Federation of Police Officers. He was also a member of the Eastern Connecticut Police Association, and a past president of the Veterans Council of Southbridge.

He held national and state offices in the Franco-American War Veterans and was general chairman of Southbridge Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which was dedicated May 19, 1985.

He was born in Southbridge, son of Joseph and Lydia (Dionne) Trombley and lived here all his life.

The funeral will be held Saturday from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton St. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
