Marie MITEOUAMIGOUKOUÉ (MITE8AMEG8K8E)
Biography
MARIE MITEOUAMIGOUKUOE:
BIOGRAPHY: Marie Miteouamigoukoue (Mite8ameg8k8e) was born around 1631-1632, baptized on 6 Nov 1650 in Montréal, and died 8 Jan 1699 in Trois-Rivères - Certificate 38603. (7). She was an Algonquin Native American. On the Baptismal Certificate, there are four other people listed in addition to Marie: Assababich, an Indian, Maire and her spouse Lepine, and Father Claude Pijart. Assababich was Marie's first husband.
According to the 1667 Census, she is listed as being 35 years old.
According to the 1681 Census, her age is listed as 50 years old.
The Burial Certificate No. 89562 does not contain her name. It lists Marie as "sauvagesse" (a female savage). It also says at the bottom "Madame Lafleur, veuve sauvagesse de Monsieur Lafleur..."
According to Simone Vincens, Marie Mite8amig8k8e was an orphan. In Jetté's genealogy database, her parents are listed as: Father: Bathelemi Miteouamigoukoue (Mite8ameg8k8e) or Mitcominqui was born around 1600 in Québec. (Since Mite8ameg8k8e would have been her Algonquin name, she would not have had that same name as her father) Mother: Carole Pachirini Jette incorrectly translated Carolus (latin for Charles) into Carole.
Barthelemi mentioned above was in reality Barthelemi ANARAOIU, an Algonquin of the clan of Sachem Pachirini who was baptized by Father Imbert DUPERON on 4 February 1643 in Montréal. The Place d'Armes in Trois Rivieres was once named Fief Pachirini because land at this sopt was granted to Sachem Pachirini.
In research conducted in 1975, it appeared that the two people listed below were the parents of Marie Mite8ameg8k8e. However, it would appear now with further research that these two people were in fact: Etienne MAGOUCH of Nepissingue origin and Marguerite TCHIOUANTOUKOUE of Ousagahiganiriniouensen origin as stated in Acte 89036 of PRDH.
Chief Charles Pachirini and Marie Miteouamigoukoue are not related except as Chief and Citizen.
Pronunciation may be: mi-te (maybe tay)-wa-meg-ou-kou-kway. The last "e" is accented é. The "kway" ending means woman or lady in Algonquine. Pronunciation: mee-tee-wa-mee-gou-kwee
She accepted the name Marie at her baptism. Those listed as her parents were most likely a part of Sachem Pachirini's tribe and not her parents.
