"Col. Joseph Blanchard, son of Capt. Joseph, was born at Dunstable, February 11, 1704. He married at Groton, September 26, 1728, Rebecca Hubbard, born at Concord, February 11, 1710-11, daughter of Major Jonathan and Rebecca (Brown) Hubbard. She was a sister of the wife of Col. Josiah Willard, with whom Col. Blanchard was intimately associated. He was an educated man of superior intelligence and capacity. He served the town of Dunstable with ability and credit. He was commissioned a Colonel of the regiment of militia, which included a large area near his home, from 1744 until his death, and maintaining intimate relations with Governor Benning Wentworth, he was entrusted with the assignment of troops from his regiment to exposed points at the north and west of Dunstable. In 1755, he commanded a regiment in the expedition to Crown Point. One of the companies of this regiment was commanded by Capt. Robert Rogers with John Stark, lieutenant, who were renowned in the ranger service. In the provincial government he was appointed a mandamus councillor, but there is no record that he acted as such. In 1749, he was appointed a justice of the Superior Court and held the commission until his death."

"He was a trusted agent of the Masonian Proprietors, and as attorney he made grants of several towns and from 1748 until his death his activities moulded the early history of many communities. He died April 7, 1758. His wife, Rebecca, died April 17, 1774. Gravestones in the old burying ground at Dunstable. They had thirteen children born at Dunstable..."
