Alonzo Franklin WARNER
Biography

Alonzo spent his childhood and early manhood at home and attending the district school and assisting in the work of the farm. After reaching manhood, he taught school for one or more terms. He remained at home helping on the farm for several years after he was of age, and for his services, his father gave him a farm of about 100 acres situated in the town of Lincklaen, one mile south of the old homestead. This he occupied from the time of his marriage until a few months after his father's death, when he and his uncle, Theodore Warner, were appointed executors of his father's estate, and he removed to the old homestead that he might keep up the home for his younger brothers and sisters.

About three years later he removed to Macedon, NY, and took charge of a farm owned by his great-aunt, the widow of David Warner. Here he remained until the spring of 1846, when he bought a farm in the town of Union, very near the shores of Lake Ontario, about ten miles north of Spencerport, NY. This was a new, undeveloped country filled with malaria from which the whole family suffered, so that at times they were all sick together. He accepted it all bravely, as he was happy to again have his own home. The following winter he was taken with pneumonia and died after a few days sickness.

Mr. Warner was an upright, hardworking and thrifty man. He was so conscientious himself that it was difficult for him to realize that others were not the same, and for this reason he was not always successful dealing with other men. He was a strong abolitionist and was one of the first two to vote the abolitionist ticket in the town where he resided. The same sturdy principles made him a strictly temperate man, and an earnest supporter of the temperate movement which first swept over the country during the early part of the nineteenth century.
