Charles J. Winis, 90, of Francis Street, Avon, husband of the late Julia (Varienski) Winis, died , Wednesday, (April 17, 1996) at Avon Convalescent Home In Avon. He was born Jan. 26, 1906 in Hartford, son of the late Vincent and Stefania Wisniewski and had lived in Hartford and West Hartford for many years prior to moving to Avon 40 years ago. Mr. Winis was employed In the Marine Insurance Department at Aetna Insurance in Hartford for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Ann's Church in Avon, a past member of the West Hartford Squires and was a character actor with the Mark Twain Maskers. He is survived by four grand nieces, Joni Strickland of Hartford, Joan Spargo of Avon, Katherine Skelley of NYC, Susan Skelley of Boston; four great grand nieces and nephews. George and Grace Price of Boston, MA, Andrew and Caitlin Spargo of Avon. He was predeceased by three sisters, Lucy Rarus, Wanda Skelley, Jane Canavarl; and two brothers, Ted Winis and Daniel Winis. Funeral will be Monday, 9:15 a.m. from the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. In St. Ann's Church, Avon. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to St. Ann's Church, Avon.
