Obituary



ARTHUR G. VERNAVA, 96, of White Pine Drive, a refinisher for the former John M. Dean Furniture Co. in Providence for 30 years, and the former American Furniture Co. in Pawtucket for 30 years before retiring, died July 27 at the Kent Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warwick. He was the husband of the late Livia M. (DiValerio) Vernava.
Born in Scituate, a son of the late Pasquale and Antonia (Palmieri) Vernava, he lived in North Providence for many years before returning to Scituate 10 years ago.
Mr. Vernava was a member of the Allendale Baptist Church in North Providence. He was a member of Providence Council 1, the Scituate Royal Arch Chapter 8, St. John's Commandery 1, the Rhode Island Grotto Association, the Moslem Grotto, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, the Palestine Temple AAONMS in Cranston, Daylight Lodge in Providence, the Masonic Veterans Association of Rhode Island, the Sword of Bunker Hill and the Rhode Island Convention Annointed High Priests. He was a chaplain-emeritus of Roger Williams Lodge 32 and an associate grand chaplain in the Fourth Masonic District. He was a DeMolay uncle in the Rhode Island DeMolay.
He is survived by a son, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Arthur G. Vernava Jr.
