"FEEDING HILLS - John S. Cesan, Feeding Hills & North Truro MA age 79 passed away on August 29th at the Holyoke Soldier's Home. He was born July 13, 1929 in Feeding Hills, MA, son of David E. Cesan and Irene Cesan. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Ruth Cesan. He leaves behind his wife Bettyanne (Dunn) Cesan, brother David T. Cesan and sister-in-law Dee Dee Cesan of Feeding Hills, daughters Anne Cesan and Camille Klein (husband Neil), sons John T. Cesan and Paul Cesan (wife Tracy), and four wonderful grandchildren Rachel, Brittany, Bailey, and Johnny. John had a wonderful family life growing up in Feeding Hills working on the family farm with immediate family as well as his large extended family. John told many stories about how his family was the first farmers in Western Mass to start the pick your own strawberries, of which they were famous for. He also looked back on his family's business the Eastern States Farmer's Exchange which his father and brother started, with many fond memories. Stories of hard work lifting several hundreds of pounds of grain and carrying them up several flights of stairs to make grain deliveries to local farmers. John entered the US Army on April 24, 1951 as a young private, and was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division. He was assigned to a Field Artillery Battery during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star for his valor and bravery on the battle field as well a final battle field promotion to sergeant first class. He returned to his home in Feeding Hills where he married his wife Bettyanne and raised four children. He was communicant of Valley Community Church in Feeding Hills, where his father in-law, Reverend Frank Dunn, was the founder. He worked and continued his service to his country as a Staff Supervising Officer at the US Army Reserve Center on East Street in Springfield. He served the Cacti Brigade as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. John worked hard, but he also loved to entertain. John was a semi-professional magician and performed numerous magic shows in the greater Western Massachusetts area. He performed for many youth groups as well as started a local chapter of the Linking Ring. John retired with his wife to North Truro (Cape Cod) in 1989. He stayed very active in his local church as well and joined his local chapters of the VFW, American Legion, and was a member of the Masonic Temple. He served as Post Commander of the VFW. John will be missed by many. Please come and join his family in saying good bye at a Memorial Service Saturday August 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the Southwick-Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick. Burial will be at a later date in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
