Warren J. Blessing, Sr., 89, of Wethersfield, husband of Dorothy Houser Blessing, died Sunday (February 12, 2012) at Hartford Hospital. He was born on July 16, 1922 in Hartford, CT., son of the late Burton J. Blessing and Dorothy Harris Blessing. He was a 1941 graduate of Wethersfield High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945; 325th Criminal Investigation Detachment in 1946-1949. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 213, Wethersfield, CT. Warren was a native of Wethersfield, where he resided all of his life. He married his wife Dorothy in 1945 in Oklahoma. They enjoyed 66 years of loving marriage. They have two sons, Warren Jr. and his wife Lynda of Coventry and Burton Dean of East Hampton. Three grandchildren, Jonathan Blessing, his wife Marcelle of New Haven, Sarah Blessing of Coventry and Matthew Blessing of Glastonbury. One great granddaughter Eleanor who always brought a smile to his face. Special thanks to the family care giver Ulvi Peenojo. He was a life long member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He joined the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles in 1947 as an Inspector. He rose to the position of Director in 1972. He was active in the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators and then retired in 1991. Since his retirement he became an avid woodcarver of birds and an active member of the Connecticut Woodcarver's Association. His Masonic career started in 1963 when he joined Hospitality Lodge #128, Wethersfield, CT, serving as Worshipful Master in 1975. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut Standing Committees of Conditions of Masonry, Delinquency and Finance from 1982 thru 1985 and then served as Chairman of The Welfare of Lodges and Bylaws from 1986 thru 1989. He served as Associate Grand Marshal, District 6B in 1974-1975. He was appointed R.W. District Deputy of District C in 1981-1982. He was a member of Pythagoras-Welles Chapter No. 17, R.A.M.; Wolcott Council, No. 1, R & S. M; Washington Commandery, No. 1, K.T. He was a Scottish Rite member of Charter Oak Lodge of Perfection; Hartford Council Princes of Jerusalem (Sovereign Prince 1973); Cyrus Goodell Chapter of Rose Croix; Connecticut Consistory Valley of Norwich; Charter Member of Nathan Hale consistory and served as commander-in-Chief, 1988-1990. He was a member of the Executive Committee Valley of Hartford; Trustee of the Valley of Hartford; Director of the Scottish Rite Foundation and President. He was coronetted a Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33rd degree, and a Honorary Member of the Supreme Council. He was a member of Saint Andrews Conclave, Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine and Royal Order of Scotland. He was a member of Sphinx temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. He joined the Directors Staff and later became Secretary. He was appointed Second Ceremonial Master in 1973; Potentate in 1978. He was Director General of the Northeast Shrine Association Convention held in Hartford in 1979 and 1990. Warren served on the Board of Governors of the Shriners Hospital for Children, Springfield Unit, for many years, then becoming Secretary and Vice-chairman. The Board of Trustees for the Shriners Hospital for Children appointed him an Emeritus Member of the Board of Governors, Springfield Unit. He was also in the Royal Order of Jesters, Hartford court No. 141 and served as Director and then as Impresario.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Fisette-Batzner Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington at Newington Memorial. Interment will be private in the Trinity Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield, Ma.
