James V. Monahan
BAINBRIDGE — James V. Monahan, 77, of 32 Juliand St., Bainbridge, a beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at his home, following a short illness.
He was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Afton, the son of Ralph and Grace (Lord) Monahan.
He was married to Arlene Orth on June 26, 1943, in Deposit. Mrs. Monahan passed away Jan. 1, 1999.
Mr. Monahan was a lifelong Bainbridge resident, formerly owned and operated a plumbing, electrical and heating business in Bainbridge, was a retired building trade teacher with BOCES in Binghamton and a former Bainbridge village trustee and former mayor of the village of Bainbridge.
He enjoyed woodworking, building clocks and was an avid walker.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Gary LeFever of Unadilla; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William and Cathy Monahan of Bothell, Wash., and Larry Monahan of Norwich; a sister, Alice Wearne of Afton; his grandchildren, Jamie, Shawn, Todd and Trevor LeFever and Joshua and Melissa Monahan; and his great-grandchildren, Kasey and Cassie O'Hara.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, with Pastor Wayne Burnett of Bainbridge officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 1 p.m. until service time, when the family will be in attendance.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Monahan residence at 32 Juliand St., Bainbridge, following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, Norwich, or the American Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.
