BLESSING, Charles William Sr. Born May 27, 1920, in Shelton, Connecticut. Passed away April 18, 2009, in Lancaster, Calif. He was an Honor graduate at Shelton High School Class of 1938. A Civil Defense Coordinator, amateur ham radio operator, Scout Leader and member of Shelton Methodist Church. He worked for Derby Gas & Electric, Russell Linen and Howard & Barber Dept. Store in Derby, Conn. He moved his family to Lancaster, Calif., in 1961, where he managed a turkey ranch for Ryckebosch Farms, was Manager of Pay and Save Hardware, Builders Emporium and Forrest Home Center retail stores. He was respected and well liked by everyone he met and worked with. He was an avid stamp and coin collector and loved going to and watching the Dodgers. Survived by his wife of 68 years, Myrtle, daughters Diane (Dave) Lindquist, Cheryl Blessing, sons Donald (Linda) Blessing II, and Charles Jr., grandchildren Rodney (Angela) Cox, Kevin Cox, Donald Blessing III, Keri (Adam) Lindsey, and Christopher Cates, great-grandchildren Erik, Brett, Kyrsten and Courtney Cox, Sebastian Cox, Lukas and Eden Lindsey. Also survived by his brother Donald Blessing I of Longmont, Colorado and sister Lillian Zelanin of Ansonia, Connecticut and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his sister Marjorie Stevens. His family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the support of Hoffman Hospice during his final months. A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, he is missed but will live in our hearts forever. A family memorial will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2009, at his home.
