T.R. Plunkett, Ex-Senator Dies in Adams Funeral of Former Office Holder Tomorrow at 2.30 ADAMS--Theodore R. Plunkett 63, former Republican state senator, died Saturday night at Plunkett Memorial Hospital following several months Illness. His health had been impaired by a diabetic condition since September.
Theodore R. Plunkett Plunkett for years had been active in church, political business, civic and fraternal affairs The family was long prominent in the affairs of Adams.
The funeral will be it tomorrow afternoon at the First Congregational Church with Rev. John F Dobbs officiating. Burial will be in Maple Street Cemetery.
Mr. Plunkett who was born in this town, May 18, 1882 a son of William B. and Lyda French Plunkett. He was a graduate of Williams College in 1905. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy in 1898 and the following year transferred to the former Rivervlew Academy in Poughkeepsie New York.

He was a good ball player and pitched for school in championships in this town .(11 d N o i l h Adams Ho I n 5 uon) the Berkshire County golf championship in 1909 and continued to be a leader in that field until ill health prevented. He was in charge of the Pownal ( V t ) division of the Berkshire Cotton Mills for a period and later became assistant superintendent of the Adams mills. After leaving the manufacturing business he formed the Greylock Mill Supply Company He was state senator from 1930 through 1937 and was a member of the Milk Control Board. In 1938 he won the Berkshire County golf championship. (In 1939 ?)

In 1927 Mr. Plunkett first entered politics and was elected selectman, in this town. He later became president of the Selectmen Association of Berkshire County. He was elected senator in 1930 and re-elected In 1932. He was mentioned for lieutenant governor but never ran for that office. In 1936 he was chairman of the flood relief committee and in that capacity brought state officials to Adams with the result that several washed out bridges were reconstructed by the state. In his last campaign for the Senate he lost to Sen Michael H. Condron of Pittsfield after defeating Col George Kraft for the nomination.
Mr. Plunkett is credited with having had much to do with the erection of the wai memorial beacon on Greylock.
He fought repeatedly for the retention of the State Teachers College at North Adams when it was moved to abandon this institution. While was a senator Mr. Plunkett maintained an office in Adams where constituents gathered for conferences.
As a boy Mr. Plunkett attended the First Congregational Church, becoming in later years one of Its stanchest members and benefactors.
He was for 34 years a member of the choir and church mixed quartet. He served from 1917 through 1937 as superintendent of the Sunday school.

From 1918 through 1941 Mr. Plunkett was a director of the Greylock National Bank here. He was a charter member of the Adams lodge of Elks.

He leaves his wife, the former Bessie Daniels two sons, William of Arlington and Douglas, and a daughter Theodora Adams of this city.
