Douglas R. Plunkett

ADAMS - Douglas Robinson Plunkett, 80, of 9 Marshall Ave. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted Nov. 11. Born in Adams on Feb. 16, 1909, son of former Massachusetts Sen. Theodore R. Plunkett and Bessie Daniels Plunkett, he was a lifelong resident of Adams and attended local schools. He was a graduate of Pomfret Academy in Connecticut and attended Amherst College, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge and the New York School of Photography. Mr. Plunkett opened Plunkett Studios many years ago in Adams, then moved his photography business for a time to Williamstown. He returned to Adams and worked at the former Arnold Print Works until establishing Berkshire Studio, which he operated for many years until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, a life member of Adams Elks, member and past president of Adams-Chamber of Commerce and member and director of Adams Historical Society. He leaves his wife, the former Jean Arnold Thurston, whom he married June 23, 1956; two sons, Douglas R. Plunkett Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., and Air Force Master Sgt. Theodore F. Plunkett of Warner Robins, Ga.; a stepson, Alan C. Thurston of Adams, three grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2 on Friday in the First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Robert A. Magie, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Street Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The family requests the omission of flowers and suggests that memorial donations be made to the First-Congregational Church Anniversary Fund through the Auge-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home, Adams, which is in charge of arrangements.
