John Nicholson, Jr. Dies at Nantucket
"PITTSFIELD - John Nicholson, Jr., 62, of 7 Center St., well known former athlete and sports enthusiast, died suddenly Wednesday night while vacationing with his family at the home of his son, John Nicholson, 3d, on Nantucket Island."
"He was born in Pittsfield, son of former-Sheriff John Nicholson and May Sanders Nicholson, and spent most of his life here. He was graduated from Pittsfield High School, Manlius Academy and attended Boston University and was an outstanding athlete in several sports."
"He has acted during recent years as an unofficial scout for the United States Military Academy and has been instrumental in persuading several athletes to apply for entry at West Point."
"For a number of years he has been in the insurance business, lately associated with the Purches agency, and was also employed at Crane and Co. He leaves his wife, the former Doris E. Gilich; one son, John, 3d, and two grandchildren; two sisters, Misses Ruth and Marion Nicholson of Pittsfield. Arrangements for services are under direction of the Wellington funeral home."
