Clayton J. Slade

NORTH ADAMS Clayton Jerome Slade, 90, of 13 Oriole Lane. Sandwich, died Saturday evening at Falmouth Hospital, where he was admitted Nov. 27. He was a native of North Adams and lived in Stamford, Vt, for many years. He was born July 29, 1900, a son of Charles and Jessica Fiege Slade, and attended North Adams schools. Mr. Slade was a self-employed carpenter and builder in the area, retiring in 1968. He had resided in Sandwich since December 1988. He was a member of the First Congregational Church. His wife, the former Gertrude F. Stein, died June 12, 1986. He leaves two grandsons; a granddaughter, Mrs. E. Kimberley Fagnant, with whom he made his home; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Garrison of Schenectady, N.Y., and Mrs. Doris Scott of Adams; and a great-granddaughter. The funeral will be tomorrow at 1 at the First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Elizabeth H. Wheeler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Coral Club of First Congregational Church through the Auge-San Soucie-Simmons Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
