F. A. Oatman, Ex-Banker, Dies at 70

"Floyd A. Oatman, who retired from the presidency of the United Co-operative Bank in May, died Wednesday in Springfield Hospital Medical Center at the age of 70."

"Mr. Oatman, who lived at 2066 Westfield St., West Springfield, served as a member of the Board of Appeals of West Springfield. He was alo a member of the town's Finance Committee for six years and a past president of the West Springfield Club."

"He had been vice-president and general manager of Adams Nursery of Westfield, the firm that his grandfather founded, since the 1950s. He was also president of Adams-Brainard, Inc. of Thompsonville, Conn."

"Mr. Oatman was born here Nov. 9, 1899, the son of Edgar J. and May (Adams) Oatman. He attended local schools and Worcester Academy and served in World War I with the Army Transportation Corps. He began his association with Adams Nursery in 1920 following his Army service."

"Active in Community
His memberships included Melha Temple Shrine, Rosewell Lee Lodge or Masons, York and Scottish Rite Bodies, Royal Order of Jesters, No. 144, and the Springfield Rotary Club."

"A member of Mittineague Congregational Church, he leaves his wife, Mrs. Lois Thompson Oatman."

"Funeral services will be held at the Dickinson-Street funeral home Friday afternoon. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery."
