H. W. POND, 62, AGAWAM, DIES; ILLNESS BRIEF

Real Estate, Insurance Agent Was Former Town Official

AGAWAM - Howard W. Pond, 62, of 845 Main St., real estate and insurance agent, died in Springfield Hospital Sunday afternoon after a brief illness. Mr. Pond was a member of the firm of Pond Bros. and was a former Agawam tax collector and member of the Board of Registrars.

In Printing Business
Before joining Pond Bros. in 1930, Mr. Pond was vice-president of the Pond-Ekberg Co. of Springfield, a printing and publishing firm established by his father.

Mr. Pond was born in Manchester, N. H., son of John D. and the late Mary (Sanderson) Pond and had lived here for 53 years.

He was a member of the Agawam Congregational Church; Mount Orthodox Lodge of Masons; Agawam Trestle Board Club; Springfield Board of Realtors; National Association of Mutual Insurance Agents; and Agawam Insurance Association.

Besides his father, he leaves his wife, Anna (Crouss) Pond, a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Danforth of Atlanta, Ga.; five brothers, Ralph D., Kenneth M., Everett A., and Clifford D., all of Agawam, and Emerson H. of Derry, N. H.; four sisters, Mrs. Bernice Merrell of Cranston, R. I., Mrs. Gladys Havens of Burlington, Vt., Mrs. Grace Cavicchi of Agawam and Mrs. Esther Faulkner of Springfield, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral is Wednesday
The funeral will be held at the Dickinson-Streeter funeral home Wednesday at 1 p. m., with an organ prelude at 12:30 p. m. Rev. Eben T. Chapman, minister of Agawam Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Center Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p. m. Friends are asked to omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Heart Association, 145 State St., Springfield.
