HENRY KAISER DIES IN ADAMS
Was One of First Licensed Stationary Engineers - Had Been Active Fraternally - Funeral Tuesday

"Adams, Feb. 13 - Henry Kaiser, 85, a pioneer among licensed stationary engineers in Massachusetts and member of a well-known North Berkshire family, died at 5:40 this afternoon at his home, 6 Smith street. He had been in failing health for several months, but had been confined to bed for only a few days. Death followed complications incident to old age."

"Mr Kaiser was born in the town of Florida on August 16, 1857, a son of the late Henry and Rose (Smith) Kaiser. Coming to Adams as a young man, he was first employed as a foreman at the Arnold Lumber company, where he remained until he obtained his first-class engineers license about 50 years ago. Mr Kaiser, one of seven from this area to take the examination in a room of the old Greylock hotel here, was the fourth man in Massachusetts to obtain such a rating and the first in this part of the state to so qualify."

"Retired in 1934
For a time he was engineer at the old Jacquard mill and, in 1898, he went to what is now the Berkshire mills. After 36 years of continuous service with that concern, he retired in 1934, when electricity for power was installed in the Berkshire mills plant."

"Since his retirement he had devoted his time to his home, real estate holdings and numerous social organizations in which he held membership. Until recently, he had been active in Berkshire lodge of Masons, in which he held a lifetime membership, and from which he as presented a 50-year membership. He was also associated with Corinthian chapter, Royal Arch Masons, and the Ancient Order of United Workmen."

"Had Been Bank Director
Since 1907, he had served as a director of the Adams Cooperative bank, in which he was active until a month ago. He was also a member of the First Congregational church."

"On June 20, 1878 Mr Kaiser married Mary Jane Miller at the Congregational parsonage here. His wife died July 21, 1938, a month after she and her husband had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary."

"He leaves a daughter, Mrs Sadie K. Horn of Farnums; and two sons, Robert C. of Detroit and Howard C Kaiser of Adams; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Rev W. Reed Usher, pastor of the Congregational church, will officiate at the funeral which will be held at the Kaiser home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30. Burial will be in Bellevue cemetery."

"The funeral of Henry Kaiser who died Saturday at his home, 6 Smith street, was held here yesterday. Officers of the Adams Cooperative bank attended in a body. Rev W. Reid Usher of First Congregational Church officiated. The bearers were former Senator Theodore R. Plunkett, Harry E. Davis, James E. Cashin, William Neumann and B. S. Hurd."
