CHICOPEE - John H. "Jack" Moran, 75, a 38-year teacher in the Chicopee Public School System, died Saturday in the Noble Hospital in Westfield. Born in Chicopee, June 1, 1929, the son of the late John and Ellen (Collins) Moran, he was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield, attended St. Michael's College and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from AIC and served with the Army during the Korean War. During his career, Jack was appointed as the first head of the Social Studies Department at Chicopee Comprehensive High School, served on the faculty of the Hampden College of Pharmacy for 10 years and was a member of the faculty of the Evening Division of American International College for 6 years. He retired in 1990. Active in civic Affairs, Jack was selected as the City of Chicopee Parade Marshall for the St. Patrick's Day Parade in 1991, served on the Chicopee Historical Association and Building commission for the addition to the Chicopee Comprehensive High School. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Willimansett and a more than 50-year member of Elder Council #69, Knights of Columbus in Chicopee. He was a life member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, American Legion Post 337, the Chicopee Tigers Club, the National Education Association, the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association and the State, County and Municipal Employees Retirement Association. Jack's first wife, Marilyn R. (Walsh) Moran, predeceased him in 1981. His survivors include his present wife, Marcella L. (Bergeron) Moran, 2 sons, John H. Moran, Jr. of Washington, D.C. and James M. Moran of Los Angeles, 2 daughters, Ellen M. Moran of Barnegat, NJ and Catherine A. Moran of Springfield, a brother William Moran of Largo, FL and 2 granddaughters, Kathleen E. and Jillian A .Slockbower. He also leaves his stepchildren, Richard R. Patrie of Barrington, NH, Alan J. Patrie of Haverhill, Paul E. Patrie of Holyoke and Maureen A. O'Donnell of Jacksonville, FL and 20 step-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield st., Chicopee followed by a mass in St. Mary's Church at 10. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
