NICHOLSON, Patricia Cody

Patricia Cody Nicholson, 63 of Sedona, AZ died Monday, (August 25, 2003) as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Brought up in the South End of Hartford, she attended St. Augustine School and Mount St. Joseph Academy. She was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, where she majored in music. She was employed by the East Hartford school system in the 1960's, teaching music at Sunset Ridge, Slye, and Hockanum elementary schools, and at Penney High School. With a master's degree in music from Arizona State University, she continued her career in music; teaching at universities, privately, and directing church choirs. Tap dancing remained an important part of her life as well. She performed with her husband in clubs, both as a singer and on keyboard, as a member of The Dorian Mood. She and her husband lived and performed in Australia, Englewood, Florida, and Arizona. Recently, she spent seven summers with her husband entertaining at a resort on Lake George in Upstate New York. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Jon Parker Nicholson of Sedona, AZ; her mother, Esther Blessing Cody of South Windsor; her sister, Maureen Cody Carroll of Andover; her brother, William Jerome Cody of Springfield, IL; her aunt, Frances Blessing of Rocky Hill (formerly of East Hartford); her uncle, Frank Anderson of South Windsor; niece, Elaine Carroll; and nephew, Edward Carroll of Andover. Funeral services were held in Sedona, AZ where she has been laid to rest. Memorial donations are being accepted for a music scholarship into the Weldon Bright Fund, administered by Sedona Jazz on the Rocks, in the name of Patricia Nicholson. The fund benefits outstanding young music students by providing private and institutional tuition. Donations may be made to Sedona Jazz on the Rocks.
