DONNELLY, Gerald E.

Gerald E. Donnelly, 84, of Enfield and formerly of Manchester, husband of the late Ruth A. (Beebe) Donnelly, died Friday (January 3, 2003) at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was born February 24, 1918 in Lowell, MA, son of the late Edward and Eva Pratt (Manchester) Donnelly and had been a resident of Manchester for more than 30 years before moving to Enfield in 1950. Mr. Donnelly was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II. He had worked with the Connecticut Transit Co. for 30 years and then began a 25 year career as the Commissioner of the Hazardville Volunteer Fire Dept. In retirement he had worked on a part time basis with the U.S. Postal Service in the Kensington office. Gerald was a longtime member of the Hazardville United Methodist Church, the Manchester Lodge # 73 A.F. & A.M., the Sphinx Temple in Newington, the Sphinx Omar Shrine Club, the Grand Lodge of Connecticut, the Scottish Rite Valley of Hartford and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Nutmeg Forrest # 116. He is survived by two brothers-in-law Harold E. Mikoleit and his wife, Georgina of Shrewsbury, MA, George Beebe and his wife, Jane of Manchester, his sister-in-law Marilyn Keyes and her husband, Sumner of Hanford, CA; his niece and caregiver, Dianne M. Edwards of Avon; his beloved companion, "Teddi" the Yellow Labrador; and several nieces and nephews from his late wife's family. Gerald was predeceased by his sister, Doris E. Mikoleit. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Avon Health Care for their loving care for Gerald. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 8, at 1 p.m. at the Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center St., Manchester. Burial will be in the East Cemetery Manchester. Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from 12 Noon-1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (Manchester North Unit), P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450.
