ZELANIN Walter Alexander Zelanin Sr., age 80, beloved husband of Lillian Blessing Zelanin of Ansonia, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the Shelton Lakes Health Care Center, Shelton. Born in West Haven on May 23, 1927, he was the son of the late Alexander and Dorothy Kranyak Zelanin. Mr. Zelanin was a World War II Army veteran and longtime resident of Ansonia. He was a UCONN graduate and worked as a credit manager for the former City Lumber Co., then Stevenson Lumber Co. of Monroe for many years until his retirement in 1990. He was a longtime member of the Ansonia First Congregational Church, where he served as a Deacon, choir member and religious education instructor. Mr. Zelanin was an avid gardener and New York Giants fan, but will be long remembered for his love of his family, especially for his grandchildren. In addition to his wife of nearly 54 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Walter Zelanin of Ansonia, Kathy Chernovetz of Torrington, Russell and David Zelanin of Ansonia, and Paul Zelanin and his wife, Wendy of Shelton; sister, Dorothy Debowes of West Haven; and seven cherished grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Alexander Zelanin. Funeral services will take place on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at 4 p.m. in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Interment will be private.
