John D. Donovan "Coach Dunny"1952 - 2008 DALTON John D. "Dunny" Donovan, 55, of 351 Orchard Road passed away unexpectedly Wednesday at the Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, in Orlando, Fla. Born on Nov. 24, 1952, in Pittsfield, the son of the late John E. and Lucille M. Cote Donovan, he was a 1972 graduate of Wahconah High School. Following high school, Dunny served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. He was worked as a laborer at Allegrone Construction since 1975. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church. Dunny was a coach for 20-plus years in the Dalton football program in the junior and senior divisions, which was one of his great passions. He was a recipient of the Gib Kittridge award. He loved his Chicago Bears and first and foremost his family. He leaves his wife, the former Justine E. Fraley, whom he married Jan. 27, 1978 at St. Mark's Church in Pittsfield. They recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter, Meghann E. Donovan of Dalton; a son, John E. Donovan of Yellowstone, Wyo.; three sisters, Marie Potter and her husband, James, of Woodstock, Ga., Kathleen Kleaka and her husband, Kenneth, of Winterhaven, Fla., and Eileen Callahan and her husband, Raymond, of West Springfield; a brother, Edward J. Donovan and his wife, Julie, of Dalton; his mother-in-law Helen Fraley of Dalton; his sister -in-law, Judith Filiault, and her husband, Ernest, of Grand Haven, Mich., and his beloved cat, Otis. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, James Fraley. FUNERAL NOTICE: A liturgy of Christian Burial for John D. "Dunny" Donovan will be Friday, March 28, 2008 at St. Agnes Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Christopher Malatesta officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Agnes Church. Per the family request in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Perry Pavilion in care of the BARTLETT WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226, which is in charge of arrangements.
