David Theodore "Ted" CESAN
Obituary

David T. "Ted" Cesan, 92, passed away peacefully in his home on October 15, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. "Ted" as he was affectionately known was the husband and high school sweet heart to the late Dorothy "Dee Dee" (Hamilton) Cesan; who predeceased him on January 15, 2015. They enjoyed more than 30 years of marriage together. Ted was born on June 27, 1924, in Springfield a son of the late David E. and Irene (Crouss) Cesan along with brother John and sister Ruth; but was a lifelong resident of Feeding Hills and Agawam. His family farmed, growing tobacco and produce. His father was a Representative of Eastern States Farmers Exchange and Ted and his brother John worked with their father in business ( David E. Cesan & Sons Inc.) delivering grain, seed, and fertilizers to local farmers until 1965 after the Exchange was acquired by Agway. Ted was also a firefighter for the Agawam Fire Department where he served for 30 years ( 1952-1982) , first as a volunteer and later appointed as a permanent firefighter in 1957. In March 1972 , he was promoted to Lieutenant. Ted was a "Man of the Soil", "Master Gardener", and a hunter all of his life, up until last year. His vegetable garden was a show place. Having lived through the Great Depression, he believed "a penny saved is a penny earned", and could have taught Jack Benny a thing or two about saving a nickel. In addition to farming, Ted enjoyed auctions and collecting antique tractors, which he restored. Both he and "Dee Dee" could often be seen at antique tractor shows throughout New England, with Ted’s rare John Deere Unstyled Model "L" tractor. He and "Dee Dee" enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and even ventured to Dearborn, Michigan in their 1929 Model A Ford pickup. Ted will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, loyal friend, and "Papa" to not only his adored grandchildren and great grand-children, but to the many people who were fond of him. Ted is survived by his children David W. Cesan and his wife Chrissy of Hampden, MA; Donna E. Cesan and her husband Nat Karns of Lanesboro, MA; Irene E. Cesan of Taos, NM; James M. Cesan of Wardsboro, VT; Barry B. Cesan of West Springfield, MA; William T. Cesan and his wife Xinger of Culver City, CA; Cynthia Pliska and her husband Clifford of Feeding Hills, MA; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ted also leaves nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will gather and receive friends on Wednesday (Oct. 19, 1916) from 10:00AM - 12:00 Noon in the Colonial Forastiere Family Funeral Home , 985 Main St., Agawam with a funeral home service to follow. A private burial will take place.
