Obituary



DONAT J. LAPLANTE, 87, of 91 Paine St., Bellingham, Mass., a former state representative in Norfolk County, Mass., and retired tax assessor, died yesterday at The Maple's, Wrentham, Mass.

He was the husband of Jeannette (Pirani) Laplante. Born in Harrisville, a son of the late William and Marieanne (Paul) Laplante, he lived had in Bellingham since he was 14.

Mr. Laplante was the state representative in Norfolk County from 1975 to 1979. He was also the tax assessor in the Town of Bellingham for 34 years, retiring many years ago.

He was a former member and past president of the Franco American Club and the Massachusetts Tax Assessors Association, and a member of the former Club Marquette. He was the author of the Assumption Parish 50th Anniversary Book.

Besides his wife, he leaves seven sons, William and Albert Laplante, both of Bellingham, Edouard Laplante of North Attleboro, Joseph Laplante of Marlboro, Mass., Mitch Laplante of Kiawah Island, S.C., Antoine Laplante of San Diego, Calif., and Philippe Laplante of Greenville; four daughters, Gabrielle Laplante of Johnston, Julie Lacroix of Redondo Beach, Calif., Jacqueline Laplante of Woonsocket and Catherine Laplante of Bellingham; and 20 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Cecile Cournoyer.

The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Assumption Church, Moody Street, Bellingham. Burial will be in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham.
