ONE FATALLY HURT, THREE INJURED IN AGAWAM COLLISION

Ward L. Thompson of That Town Killed - Two Feeding Hills and Another Agawam Man Injured

"One man was fatally injured and three others less seriously hurt in an automobile accident at Berry and Pine streets, Agawam, shortly after 1 yesterday afternoon. Ward Lyman Thompson, 69, of 211 Mill street, Agawam, died of a fractured skull at Wesson Memorial hospital four hours later."

"Two of the passengers in the Thompson car are at Wesson Memorial hospital. They are Alexander Adams, of Portland street, Feeding hills, arm injuries and William Randall, 18, of 373 Suffield street, Agawam, possible fractured shoulder. The third man, earl Houghton, of South Westfield street, Feeding Hills, operator of the other car, received a laceration of the face and complained of pains in the right side. He was not admitted to the hospital."

"Second Agawam Auto Death
Mr. Thompson's death was the second to be caused in Agawam by automobile accidents this year."

"The intersection, according to Chief of Police Perley J. Hewey, is blind, in the back-roads section near the state line, and he declared circumstances of the accident indicated both cars were traveling too fast for the particular section. He indicated that charges may be preferred following an exhaustive investigation."

"Mr. Houghton, he said, was traveling north on Pine street and Mr. Thompson west on Berry, the Thompson car having struck the Houghton machine broadside. Despite his injury, Mr. Houghton summoned another car from the garage of which he is the proprietor and drove the three injured men to the hospital."

"Was Born at Monterey
Mr. Thompson was born at Monterey, son of Sheridan W. and Salona (Thomson) Thompson, but had lived in Agawam for the past 60 years. He attended Agawam public schools and was graduated from Connecticut Literary institute, now known as Suffield academy. For a number of years he was employed by Bemis & Call, and later became the proprietor of a florist's supply firm."

"He leaves his widow, Alvina, three sons, Howard of Agawam, Bortrand H., of Newton and Ralph of West Springfield; a daughter, Mrs Lois Oatman of West Springfield; a sister Mrs H. A. Huntington of this city and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be held at Graham's funeral parlors Sunday afternoon at 2 with Rev Walter H. Loomis of Agawam officiating. Burial will be in Agawam Center cemetery."
