Deceased Name: C. Bader Brouilette, 78, a founder of Vermont's Champlain College
C. Bader Brouilette, 78, of Sarasota, Fla., and Kennebunk, Maine, a native of Easthampton, Mass., and one of the founders of Champlain College in Burlington, died Friday in Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford.

He left Easthampton in 1929, and taught in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and Rhode Island, until 1937.

He was later associated with the family business, the C.A. Bader Co. of Connecticut.

He moved to Burlington in 1955, and in 1956 he and his partner, Albert Jensen, bought the Burlington Business College, which was renamed Champlain College.

The college grew from a 5-room secretarial school into an institution with 1,400 students and 27 buildings.

He retired from the college in 1977.

He leaves his wife, the former Marjorie Freeman a son, Alan of Chicago a daughter, Nancy Gasink of Augusta, Maine his mother, Edith (Bader) Brouilette of Greenfield, Mass. a brother, Douglas Brulett of Florida, Virginia and Huntington, Mass. six grandchildren, and a niece, Donna Mitchell Craig of Goshen, a teacher at Easthampton High School.

A memorial service will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the Congregational Church of Burlington.

Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund in his name at the college.
