Roger Dale Harris
Eaton Rapids
Passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 5, 2015 after a brief illness. Roger was born in Eaton Rapids, July 12, 1945 the son of Lyle and Eunice (Davenport) Harris. He proudly served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War as an Engineman 3rd Class. Roger retired from the printing industry in 2001 but continued working on his family farm and fixing other people's tractors. He gave back to the community by holding a position as an Eaton Rapids County Commissioner from 2008-2010 and 2012-2015, serving on the board of the Eaton County Parks and Recreation Dept. and Tri-County Commission on Aging. He was a member of Pheasants Forever and the Downtown Development Authority. Roger enjoyed NASCAR, hunting with his older granddaughters and taking his younger granddaughter to the playground of dreams, having coffee at the downtown coffee shop and taking long walks with his beloved wife.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara (Swan) Harris; daughters, Salli (Todd) Harding of Eaton Rapids, Lisa Dodge of Eaton Rapids; granddaughters, Rebecca, Alexandra and Alaina, all of Eaton Rapids; sisters, Joan (Dan) Rodgers of Rives Junction, Judy (Rex) Twichell of Springport, Janet Mahan of Bellevue; brother and sisters-in-law, Elaine (J.R.) Carson of Kalamazoo, Stanley (Brenda) Swan of Leslie, Betty (Jim) McCormick of Lansing, Sharon (Roger) Anthony of Dimondale; several nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-laws, Donald Hayhoe, Charles Mahan and Larry Swan.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Thursday April 9, 2015 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Heart and Hands, 9220 Kinneville Rd. or the weekend backpack program in care of the United Methodist Women, 600 S.
