Obituary



William J. "Poppy" Stevenson Jr., age 72, a resident of Derby and husband to Suzanne Stevens Stevenson, passed away July 27, 2018 at Griffin Hospital. He was born in Derby on Sept. 5, 1945. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Ansonia and worked as a truck driver for Paraco Gas and Stevenson Lumber Companies. Bill was an avid football fan and devotee of The New England Patriots. Most importantly, "Poppy" was a wonderful husband; a loving father and grandfather to five and caring great grandfather to two; with a great granddaughter on the way. But he was also a brother, father and grandfather of sorts to many, many more. In addition to his mother Viola "Sue" Walsh Stevenson, he was predeceased by his siblings Bob, Agnes and Carol. In addition to his wife Suzanne, he leaves to cherish his memory his son William J. Stevenson III, and daughters Dee Moses, (Romell) Traci Hultgren, (Jim) Marli Stevenson and Jill Stevenson. Also, grandchildren Jesse, D.J., Jaclyn, Alisha & Taylor and great grandchildren Lily and Jonah, all residing in Derby. Friends who wish may make donations in Bill’s memory to The First United Methodist Church in Ansonia. The family would like to thank the staff at Griffin Hospital for the loving and professional care they gave to Bill. A celebration of the life of William Stevenson will be held on Thursday August 2 at 7:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia.
