Obituary

Phyllis E. Hanisch, 75, died Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 18 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls.

Visitation begins at 1:00 PM Monday, June 17 at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends starting at 5:00 PM and a Liturgical Wake Service starts at 7:00 PM.

Phyllis was born the daughter of Peter and Stella Vivian (Bobier) Trickey, on March 23, 1938 in Sioux City, IA. She lived in the S. Sioux City, IA area until the age of 8 when she moved with her family to Sioux Falls, SD. Phyllis grew up and received her education there, graduating from Washington High School in 1956.

Phyllis met the love of her life, Richard T. "Dick" Hanisch, while working at Sunshine Foods on 10th Street in Sioux Falls. The young couple was united in marriage on November 3, 1956 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. Phyllis loved her vocation as a wife and mother. Taking care of her family was extremely important to her. Being with her children, grandkids and great grandkids gave her great joy. She loved to share stories about their lives with others. She even made "party plates" for the grandkids to help get them to eat when they were being a little stubborn. In earlier years when her children needed braces, she babysat and sold Avon products to help with the additional expense. She also worked at Sunshine Mutual Insurance and Sears for a short time.

Phyllis had many interests including bowling, quilting, sewing, and participating in craft shows. She served countless hours with the Altar Society at both St. Therese and St. Lambert Catholic Church.

She maintained lifelong relationships with her high school friends and got together with them monthly. Phyllis enjoyed her weekly lunches with her sisters-in-law. In addition, she enjoyed summers in Eden, SD with good friends. Phyllis' gift of hospitality was always present. Her keen sense of humor and ready smile helped her throughout her 19 year battle with cancer. She lost the love of her life when Dick preceded her in death on August 27, 2011.

Survivors include her children, Cheryl Wodzinski and her husband, Greg, Canton, SD, Christine Babekuhl and her husband, Craig, Sioux Falls, SD, Scott Hanisch and his wife, Kathy, Sioux Falls, SD, Jeff Hanisch and his wife, Karla, Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ray (Johnavieve) Trickey, Dayton, OH.
