"1) from: A Genealogy of Families Bearing the Name Cook & Cooke, James Cook, 1882: p.4: Richard Cook of Norwich had a grant in Preston as early as 1680 he had a son, Obed.
2) Vital Records of Norwich 1659-1848 Society of Colonial Wars, 1913. p. 13: Obed Cook the Son of Richard Cooke b. 1 Feb 1681.
3)History of Norwich, Frances Manwaring Caulkins, 1866: p. 138 1701, James Fitch, at New London, deed, to Massiah Harding & Richard Cooke of Eastham - 1000 acres in Plainfield. Cooke sold to Elisha Payne.
p. 246: A deed of gift dated July 21, 1680 is recorded from Greenfield Larrabee to Richard Cooke of Stonington of 30 acres of land "over Showtuckett, where my now dwelling is," provided he removes & dwells upon it Richard Cooke acepted the conditions, was afterwards admitted an inhabitant [of Preston] and had other lands granted by the town. He died in 1695. His son Obed, born Feb 1 1681 was the father of Capt. James Cook of Preston.
p. 243 In all probablilty Greenfield Larrabee was the 1st settler in this region - the 1st actual inhabitant of the town of Preston.
p. 248 Larrabee, Greenfield from Saybrook son of an original immigrant of the same name, married Alice, daughter of Thomas Parke, in March 1673. He was b. 20 Apr 1648, d. 3 Feb 1739."
