David MOULTON
Biography

David, was b. at Porter, Nov. 21, 1825, and educated at the town schools of Porter and Foxcroft, and at Foxcroft Academy. Being early in life inclined to mercantile pursuits, he, at the age of fourteen, sought and obtained a clerkship in Bangor. A change in the business of his employers caused him again to become a student at Foxcroft Academy. Teaching next engaged his attention. Two winters were spent by him at Lincoln, Me., in the of delightful task.' His natural impulses, however, again prevailed, and the Forest City seemed to offer suitable field for aspirants to mercantile honors and emoluments. Accordingly, in the spring of 1844, Covell, Greenough & Co. first received his services as clerk in the hat, cap, and fur business. He continued with this firm for several years. He afterwards himself engaged in the manufacture and sale of hats and caps, and in the sale of corn and flour. May 15, 1863, he was appointed Deputy Collector of Customs for the District of Portland and Falmouth. This office he continues to hold. He
acts as Cashier at the Custom House, and is responsible for a faithful and accurate disposition of all monies received. Gen. Taylor, for whom he cast his first vote, Lincoln, and Grant were his choice for President, and Deering (formerly a part of Westbrook) his residence since 1854. Nov. 26, 1852, he was m. to Elizabeth J., daughter of Ebenezer Wentworth, of Biddeford, in New York city, by the Rev. C. H. Fay. His wife was b. Apr. 4, 1829, and d. Feb. 10, 1869, set. 39 y. 10 m. 6 d. They had five children, all born in
Westbrook.
