1935 Death of her uncle

The death of Mr. Ralph Penny Thompson occurred early Saturday morning in Bellevue Hospital, New York City, following an emergency operation for gastric ulcers. Peritonitis developed and although a transfusion of blood was also given he was unable to rally. Mr Thompson was born in this village 57 years ago, a son of the late James H. and Julia (Penny) Thompson and his boyhood and youth were spent here where he was popular with a large circle of his own age for his happy fun loving disposition. He attended Vermont Academy and then took up surveying with a group of civil engineers and was such an apt pupil that he spent his life in that field of labor in connection with many important projects in different states and in Cuba, where the climate affected his health and he suffered from the ill effects for a number of years. He was stationed in Newark. N. J., for several years, also in Brooklyn where he made a home for his mother to whom he was deeply devoted. His body was brought here for interment Tuesday morning and a number of relatives and friends of his boyhood gathered in the cemetery for the committal service conducted by Rev. Mr. Waefer, pastor of a Presbyterian church in New York of which he had been a regular attendant the past two years. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Fred Timmerman of Morrisville, Vermont, a niece, Mrs. Martin Tiffany of New York and a nephew, Frederick Timmerman, Jr.
