MARQUETTE - Rochelle Marie Doll, 86, of 1410 Woodland Ave., Marquette, entered eternal life Thursday morning, April 15, 2010, at her home, in the loving care of her family and the caregivers of Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.

Rochelle was born Aug. 10, 1923 in Blind River, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of Joseph and Annette (Trahan) Verreault. Upon completing her education requirements, Rochelle began a lengthy career as a registered nurse in 1944. On November 4, 1950, she married Louis J. Doll at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Birch Run. The couple resided there until moving to Marquette in 1961 where Rochelle was employed with the former St. Luke's Hospital (now MGH), retiring from nursing in 1970. A homemaker, Rochelle was an avid and spectacular knitter, possessed a love of reading, and was an enthusiastic supporter of Majestics and Blue Notes Drum and Bugle Corps. She also enjoyed watching old movies, especially musicals, and was an artistic cake decorator and maker of panoramic sugar eggs. Rochelle loved flowers and was a kind of "virtual gardener" giving instructions and supervising the finer aspects of gardening while her husband and children performed the actual labor. Her efforts are remembered with smiles and laughter.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Jo Doll of Marquette; Elizabeth (Melvin) Hangas of Republic, and Susan Doll of Raleigh, N.C.; her former son-in-law, Michael Tall of Ishpeming; two grandsons, Andrew (Autumn Filkens) Tall and Adam (Kelly) Tall; three great-granddaughters, Ryan Mackanzie Tall, Morgan and Kelsey Daley; her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Martinus and Dorothy Doll both of Birch Run; brothers-in-law, Fern Gagnon of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, and Ted Doll of Birch Run; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Rochelle was preceded in death by her husband, Louis on October 20, 2000; her sisters, Ida Gagnon and Pauline Lizotte; and by brothers, Jeanpaul and Julien Verreault.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening with Rev. Jeff Johnson as celebrant. A reception will follow at the family home, 1410 Woodland Ave. Inurnment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the caregivers and staff of Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice and Dr. Daniel Hardie and his staff for the many kindnesses extended to Rochelle and her family.
