DIES FOLLOWING SEVERE INJURIES
Mrs. T.F. Betterley Was 81 Years Old--Funeral Service This Afternoon in Home on Ames Hill

Mrs. Thomas Francis Betterley, 81, died Saturday evening at 8:15 o'clock in her home on Ames hill. She fell in home eight weeks ago and fractured one hip and injured her spine. She had been confined to her bed since then.

A daughter of Jesse and Betsey (Mixer) Dunklee, Christine Cadette Dunklee was born in Westminster April 3, 1844, one of a family of 10 children. Her marriage to Thomas F. Betterley of Williamsville took place April 5, 1866. Mr. and Mrs. Betterley lived in Springfield, Andover and New Braintree, Mass., moving to West Brattleboro 47 years ago. For a few years they lived on the so-called Gardner Briggs place on the Jacksonville road, near West Guilford, and about 16 years ago they bought their present home on Ames hill, where they carried on a large farm.

Five children were born to them, four of whom survive: Alice B. wife of Hervey D. Thayer of West Brattleboro, Fred A. Betterley of Brattleboro, Mrs. Florence Houghton of Guilford and Christine, wife of Isaac Robb, jr., of Brattleboro. A daughter, Bertha died several years ago.

Besides her husband and children, she leaves 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, also two sisters, Mrs. Ella Eames of Brattleboro, who is spending the winter in Florida, and Mrs. Alice Woodbury of East Northfield, Mass., and two brothers, Charles Dunklee of Greenfield, Mass., and Albert Dunklee of Providence, R.I.

The funeral was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the home, Rev. Edwin P. Wood, pastor of All Souls church, officiating. The bearers were her son, Fred A. Betterley, Isaac Robb,jr., Hermon, Charles and Chester Robb, Guy Thayer of Rutland and Hervey D. Thayer. The burial took place in the West Brattleboro cemetery.
