An Anxious Hour or Two. Two Little Girls Try 'Alice in Wonderland,' in Auburn Thursday Afternoon.

The Misses Julia McCann and Aline Wood of Auburn gave their mammas and anxious hour late yesterday afternoon. These young ladies, who are about five years of age, had returned home from school and were out sliding in front of the McCann residence on Court street, when they were invited to go on a sleigh ride by a gentleman who drove past. Hailing the proposition with joy they jumped into the sleigh and drove off. They have no idea where they were taken but had a fine time, enjoying every minute of the ride. Meantime Mrs. McCann had missed her little girl and became thoroughly alarmed. She sought far and near over the neighborhood for the children but failed to find any trace of them.

City Marshal Garcelon was notified and at dusk the little ones were found walking on Court street, homeward bound. They said that the man had left them at a livery stable, after giving them a good ride. He had taken them downstairs and shown them the "piggies" eating their supper. The sight reminded them that they were hungry themselves and they had then started for home. For a time the parents were greatly disturbed over the affair which was very natural, considering the number of kidnapping cases that have been chronicled in the papers of late. But Pat Crowe was not in Auburn after all and now the ex-County Attorney's little girl and Miss Wood say that they are sorry they caused mamma so much worry.
