DOYLESTOWN, PA -- Adelaide DeGroat Sears, formerly of Delmar, NY, died peacefully in her sleep, November 4 at age 96 at Luther Woods Convalescent Home, after living at the Doylestown Pine Run Community for six years. She was born October 21, 1905 to Dr. Harry Dewitt DeGroat and Helen Goodrich DeGroat. She graduated from Smith College, taught English in Riverhead, Long Island and remedial reading at Philip Livingston, Albany. She and her husband were long standing members of the Albany First Presbyterian Church. She gave of her time, compassion and resources to those in need. She was beloved by all that knew her and she will be sorely missed. She was predeceased by her husband, Wendell M. Sears, who died at age 97; her sister, Helen Bader; and brother, Dewitt DeGroat. She is survived by her children, Janice Spencer, Constance Schlothauer and Wendell I. Sears; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a very special student, Charles Koran. Two memorial services are being planned; the first at the Fluehr Funeral Home in New Britain, PA on December 8 at 2:30 p.m. and the second in late May 2002 at the Owego, NY Evergreen Cemetery.
