George Frank KORCH
1947 - Two Trustees Flee Windham Prison
BROOKLYN - Sept. 19 - (AP) - Two trustees of the Windham County jail, who had been inmates of that institution less than a week, were the object of a concentrated State police search today following their escape from the jail yard, the fifth break there in about a year.
The missing prisoners were identified by Sheriff Lionel Poirier as George F. Korch, 23, of Webster, Mass., and Ronald Pickering, 20, of Danielson…Both men, said Poirier, were sentenced to the jail on Sept. 12 from the Windham County Superior court session at Putnam and were brought to the institution that day. Both, he said, had previous jail records.
Korch, he said, originally had been sentenced to a year in jail on a charge of taking a motor vehicle without the owner's permission but was paroled after serving 3 months. This time he was sentenced to serve 6 months on a similar charge in addition to charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor and operating a motor vehicle while his operator's license was suspended. He was also sentenced to serve the remainder of his original sentence.
