1905 - Stricken in Woods. Southbridge Man Becomes Paralyzed Near Fiskdale.

FISKDALE, Dec. 7. - A woman, apparently about 35 years of age, dressed in black and wearing glasses, called at the house of Charles M. Clark, on the road to Brookfield, at 9.30 o'clock last night, and told Mrs. Clark that there was a man who had been with her sick up the old Alum pond road.

Mrs. Clark sent word to Freeman Houde, a neighbor, who, with Frank E. St. John, investigated and found a man, who proved to be Edmund Lippe, a contractor of Southbridge, lying not far from the road, in helpless condition.

Mr. Lippe could not stand, and had no control of his legs. He could talk but little, or nothing that he said could be understood.

Mr. Hound tried to arouse Mr. Lippe. Failing to do so, he got Dr. J. A. Robinson to attend the sick man.

Mr. Lippe was taken to Dr. Robinson's office on Main street. He did not recover under treatment, and was taken to his home in Southbridge at 4 o'clock this morning, by a son, who had been summoned, and accompanied by Dr. Robinson.

The doctor diagnosed the trouble as a shock of paralysis.

The woman who gabe word of the serious illness of Mr. Lippe did not tell her name. She told that she was a niece of Mr. Lippe. She said he asked her to ride with him on the car, and they came to Fiskdale. She said a son of Mr. Lippe was thiking of marrying her daughter, and, after reaching Fiskdale, Mr. Lippe and she took a walk to talk it over.

They strolled up the Brookfield road to the Clark house, then turned up on the old road, through dense woods. Suddenly, she said, Mr. Lippe fell down and she was unable to arouse him.

The woman was greatly distressed. She missed the last trolley car for Southbridge, and had to get Alonzo Ferry to carry her home in a stable rig. She left Fiskdale at 11.45 o'clock p.m.
