SOUTHBRIDGE, June 19 - Reuben Baker, 11 Sayles street, has disappeared from his Southbridge home and according to statements made by his wife to Capt Marcus L Dillaber last night, and to a reporter for The Telegram, this afternoon, his whereabouts are unknown. He has been missing since Friday, June 3, when relatives supposed that he left the town to look for work.

Mrs Baker told the reporter that when leaving, her husband promised to write, but she had heard nothing concerning his actions. The missing man is widely known in Southbridge and was an employe of the Hamilton Woolen Co.

Baker was in Southbridge Wednesday afternoon, June 1, on which date it is alleged by Capt Marcus L Dillaber, he took a silver hunting case watch, waltham movement, from Robert McLean, Lens street. The timepiece was recovered last night, by Capt. Dillaber at the Baker home, 14 Sayles street from Edouard Renaud, Mrs. Baker's father, says Dillaber.

According to the story of McLean, Baker and himself were together on the afternoon of June 1, when they left Southbridge center for McLeans boardinghouse on Lens street. Here the complainant alleges that he went to sleep on a couch, awakening to find his watch, which was in a vest pocket, amont the missing.

As there was no one else in the room, McLean said that he suspected Baker, whome he accused of the theft the following day. Baker denied that he had the timepiece and the case was reported to Capt Dillaber.

Friday the officer visited the Baker home to find the man of the house gone and according to his wife's story, his whereabouts are unknown. Capt. Dillaber reported the alleged theft to his officers none of whom have since been able to locate the missing man.
