Families of Henry R. Brandes with B Battery and George Feige with Ninth U.S. Infantry Recognize Them in Official War Pictures Published in This Paper Last Friday - Brandes Shown in Y.M.C.A. Hut and Feige Resting in Camp in France
WEBSTER, Nov. 20. - Two Webster homes were gladdened by photographs from the war front in France, which appeared in The Gazette on Friday last.
One is the home of Henry Brandes, collector of taxes and veteran of the Civil War, whose son, Henry R. Brandes, is with Battery B in France. In the figure on the left, in a photo marked "Y.M.C.A. in France, British Official," which was on Page Four, the Brandes family and numerous friends believe they recognize their son, Henry R., and are gladdened by the thought that he is in good hands.
In a photo headed "American Soldiers Resting in France," a French official photo on Page Eleven, the soldier boy sitting down on the right is without doubt George Feig, son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Feige of School street, or his double, and Mr and Mrs Feige and family are to some extent relieved of a great strain, as no direct word has been received from Geeoge since his regiment, the Ninth, U.S. Infantry broke camp some months ago. The first inderct word was received yesterday in an offical answer to a query sent to the War Department in Washington. This stated that George Feige answered present at the last roll-call of which the department has record, which probably means at the time of leaving this country. George is a grenadier in Co E, probably chosen for that work on account of his height and length of arms.
Owing to the fact that the goverment is keeping the names of those in photos, also the company to which they are attached, as secret, The Gazette is unable to prove the identity of the two boys.
