Antoine BURQUE dit LALIBERTÉ
Biography

He was the emigrant and the proprietor of the Burque dit Laliberte Family in New France and Canada. He was the son of Pierre Burque and Marie Fredefon. He was called to be enlisted as a Royal French soldier in the Company of Carbonniere of the Regiment of Guyenne in the First Battalion in Terrasson-Lavilledieu, Departement de la Dordogne, Aquitaine, France on February 28, 1748. He was later transferred into the Company of Chassignolles of the Regiment of Guyenne in the Second Battalion at the Citadel in Besancon, Departement du Doubs, Franche-Comte, France on September 17, 1749. When he was 23 years old while serving in the Royal French Army under Louis XV, his physical appearance was five feet 2 inches, chestnut hair and eyebrows, gray eyes, full face with a brand of smallpox, broad forehead, proper mouth and thick chin. During the French and Indian War, he set sail from the Port of Brest, Departement du Finistere, Bretagne, France on May 3, 1755 aboard L'Illustre and landed in Quebec, Quebec on June 25, 1755 at noon. He was engaged in the Battles of Fort Chouraguen (known later as Fort Oswego) on August 10-14, 1756, Fort William Henry on August 3-9, 1757, Fort Carillon (known later as Fort Ticonderoga) on July 6-8, 1758, Beauport (or Montmorency Falls) on July 31, 1759 , Plains of Abraham on September 13, 1759 and Sainte-Foy on April 28, 1760 under the commands of Louis-Joseph de Montcalm, his aide-de-camp, Louis Antoine de Bougainville and Francois de Gaston, Chevalier de Levis and later the Marshal of France. After the Battle of Sainte-Foy came to an end, he made his final decision to begin a new life in Canada rather than returning back to his native country. He appeared in Contrecoeur, Quebec when he was married to Marie-Jeanne Jacques at l'Eglise de la Sainte-Trinite on Rue Marie-Victorin on October 21, 1760. He was a farmer. He had been lived in Contrecoeur until his passing. He was interred at the cemetery of l'Eglise de la Sainte-Trinite, then some years later his remains were reinterred to Sainte-Trinite de Contrecoeur Cemetery on Rue Saint-Antoine along with the members of his family.
