Deschaillons-sur-Saint-Laurent is a municipality that is part of the regional county municipality of Bécancour and the administrative region of Centre-du-Québec, on the south shore of the Saint-Laurent, east of St-Pierre les Béquets and west of Leclercville, 50 kilometers northeast of Nicolet.
Its name comes from the name of the lord Pierre de Saint-Ours de L'Éschaillon, originally from Dauphiné, France, first captain in the regiment of Carignan-Salières.

Sieur de Deschaillons was granted the seigniory of Deschaillons in 1674
The Deschaillons seigneury, also called the seigneury of the Duchesne river, was granted to the knight Pierre de Saint-Ours, on April 25, 1674, by Louis de Buade, count of Frontenac, governor of New France.

Around 1741 - Construction of a first presbytery Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Deschaillons
In 1722, a Catholic mission was founded there and around 1741, the parish of Saint-Jean-Baptiste was founded and in 1751, the first church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste was erected there.

1774 - Establishment of the parish of Saint Jean-Baptiste de Deschaillons
In 1793, the first church had become dilapidated, a second Saint-Jean-Baptiste church was built and the cemetery was laid out behind the church. In 1871, it was replaced by the third village church. In 1986, the fourth church was blessed.

The parish of Saint-Jean-Baptiste-de-Deschaillons was canonically constituted in 1825.
Twenty years later, in 1855, the municipality of the parish of Saint-Jean-Baptiste-de-Deschaillons was constituted civilly. Following a few demergers, the village of Deschaillons separated from the municipality in 1891 and Saint-Jacques-de-Parisville separated from it in 1901.

In 1832, brothers David and Jean-Baptiste Charland put into operation the first brickworks in the village.
The raw material is then taken from the huge deposits of clay that line the shore of the river. Towards the beginning of the following century, about twenty brickyards will be exploited on the territory.
