The city of Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce is the oldest municipality in the historic region of Beauce, in Chaudière-Appalaches. This city covers an area of more than 108 square kilometers in the regional county municipality of Robert-Cliche, in the heart of the Chaudière Valley.

1736 - Seigniory (St. Joseph) Granted, Sept. 23, 1736, to Sieur Riguad de Vaudreuil
On September 23, 1736, the seigneury of Saint-Joseph was granted to François-Pierre Rigaud de Vaudreuil. But the following year, its first lord gave it to Joseph Fleury de la Gorgendière who favored the colonization of the territory. In December 1737, he marked out his seigniorial domain on the west bank of the Chaudière, and in 1738, he had a saw and flour mill built on the Rivière des Fermes.

During the fall of 1775, the inhabitants of Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce helped the Bostonians of Benedict Arnold to cross the territory to attack Quebec. A way to get revenge on the British who looted farms there during the Seven Years' War.

seigniory, in the co. of Beauce, is bounded N.E. by Frampton; S.W. by Broughton; in the rear by Vaudreuil; in front by Ste. Marie. - 3 leagues in breadth by 4 in depth. Granted, Sept. 23, 1736, to Sieur Riguad de Vaudreuil; and is now the property of the Hon. P.E. Taschereau. The W. section belongs to Fleury Delagorgondiere and the widow of the Hon. A.L. Duchesnaye. The surface is uneven and rocky in several places; yet the land is tolerably good, and in general very productive where it is under culture. Timber of almost every description is found in great plenty. The river Chaudiere passes through the center, dividing the S. nearly in equal proportions. On each side of the R. are settlements at a little distance from the bank, where agriculture has been carried on with good success. Besides these tracts, there are, in different parts of the interior, a few concessions that have also made considerable progress.
