Sainte-Marie, Québec, Canada

The town of Sainte-Marie, sometimes called Sainte-Marie de Beauce, is part of the historic and traditional region of Beauce and is located in the Municipalité régionale de comté de La Nouvelle-Beauce (administrative region of Chaudière-Appalaches), whose it is the capital.

Sainte-Marie, an important industrial, commercial and agricultural center, is located about 40 kilometers south of Quebec. The city covers an area of more than 106 square kilometers. The Chaudière River crosses its territory.

The name of the city comes from the name of Marie-Claire Fleury de la Gorgendière, wife of the first lord of the region, Thomas-Jacques Taschereau, to whom the seigneury was granted in 1736.
