  • 1672 - Seigniory (Tilly or St. Antoine) Granted Oct. 29, 1672, to Sieur de Villieu
    It was on October 29, 1672 that the territory located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, between the boundaries of the seigneuries of Lauzon and Sainte-Croix, was granted to Mr. Claude-Sébastien de Villieu, lieutenant of the regiment of Carignan. Towards the end of the 17th century, there were five families there.

  • In 1700, the seigniory was sold to Pierre-Noël Le Gardeur, Sieur de Tilly, who gave it his name. The new lord settled there with his second wife, Madeleine Boucher, daughter of the famous Pierre Boucher, governor of Trois-Rivières.

    seigniory, in the co. of Lotbiniere, is bounded E. by Lauzon, W. by Desplaines; in the rear by Gaspe; in front by the St. Lawrence. - 1 1/ 2 league in depth. Granted Oct. 29, 1672, to Sieur de Villieu and is now the property of __ Noel, Esq. - In this S. water is scarce. - The Parish of St. Antoine, by an order in council of Mar. 3, 1722, which confirmed the regulation of Feb. 20, 1721, extends in front 3 1/ 4 leagues, viz. 4 arpents comprised in the fief of Dame Beaudouin and one league 38 arpents the remaining extent of the S. of Tilly, also fief Miranda 3.4 of a league in front, and also F. Bonsecours one league, ascending as far as Ste. Croix.
