Parish beginnings
The historic parish of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul was founded in 1743, although the foundation was authorized in 1740 at the same time as that of Sainte-Rose-de-Lima. Saint-Vincent-de-Paul therefore separated from Saint-François-de-Sales in 1743. It was then, at the confluence of the La Pinière stream and the Rivière des Prairies, in the eastern sector, that a hamlet developed. where the first merchants settled, from 1745 to 1780.

A wealthy merchant, Joseph-Hubert Lacroix settled there in 1767 and had a stone residence built. In 1789, Lacroix, who acquired the neighboring land, came to own a vast estate, which put an end to the expansion of the hamlet.

It is 21 m. in length, and 6 m. at its greatest breadth, and is in its entire extent level, fertile and well-cultivated. It possesses excellent roads, and is connected by several ferries with the mainland and adjacent island. It contains 3 parishes. The houses are mostly built of stone.
