Making it Right

We searched and found you fallen
Part of us is a gift from you long ago
We made it right, lifted you
so now you can proudly cast a shadow
instead of sinking into one -
the sun can now better warm you (or our memories of you),
others may now "meet" you and feel connected as we do,
widening the circle in which you are the center

We are - because you once were
You brought us - the future - here on your journey
a journey we so wish to understand, but you - unable to tell us...
You live in us, somewhere - too complicated
So, we brought you a flower
a piece of life placed beside you with care and love
to thank you for the piece of life you gave to us,
to thank you for carrying us to this place on your strong shoulders
(who/ where would we be without you?)

We breathe life into you in the best way we know of,
so you can stand proud - remembered
and tell the whole world that your footsteps once
made impressions on its soil
that your breath once combined with the world's air
and your smile once touched the hearts of other people
You were fallen
now lifted
we made it right
(our small "gift" to your memory)
to keep our circle alive
