“We give on this page a view of the scene of the recent railway disaster at Meadow Brook, near Richmond Station, Rhode Island, at which a large number of passengers lost their lives, and the engineer and fireman were killed standing at their posts of duty... Had the bridge been examined by a competent person - a precaution that should certainly have been taken at a time when unusual damage might properly be apprehended - this sad disaster would have been averted...”
