STURBRIDGE - Chester L. Kruegar, 82, of 1 Kelly Road died Wednesday night in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge.

His wife, Irene L. (Abrahamson) Krueger, died in 1991. He leaves a son, Chester L. Kruegar Jr. of Webster a brother, Alfred G. Krueger of Charlton nieces and nephews. He was born in Dudley, son of Herman G. and Anna (Jesse) Kruegar, and lived here most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was taken prisoner in Europe and confined to Stalag 3B and later Stalag 7A.

Mr. Kruegar was a carpenter and had worked at American Optical Co. and the former Globe Tool & Die Co., both in Southbridge, and Pratt-Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Conn. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Southbridge American Ex-Prisoners of War Association, Sturbridge Chapter Disabled American Veterans and Fiskdale-Sturbridge Post, American Legion.
