Giles Slocombe emigrated to America after his mother's death. He was the sole executor of her will dated November 21, 1642 and proved January 26, 1643 in Old Cleeve, Somerset, England. His father had died earlier, so he assumed full adult responsibility at an early age. He married when he was eighteen and had his first child a year later.
